How do I contact my Cape Cod ISP?

CapeCod.com is not an Internet Service Provider but offers FREE CapeCod.com email accounts that can be accessed with a web browser.

If you originally were a Cape Cod ISP customer in 2002, you may now be a TTLC customer for your Internet access dial-up connection. You may want to call TTLC at 877-677-8852.

If you have a CapeCod.NET email account, you may be an Earthlink customer. Visit Earthlink's Support Center for more information.

The best way to determine your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is to check your Internet access bill to determine who to contact regarding your Internet service.

SPAM, Virus & HOAX Information

Consumer Alert: Please be aware of possible email scams!

  • Tip #1: Do NOT reply to email inquiries that don't appear legitimate (Read about the "Nigerian" Scam on the FTC website). This may only lead to more spam.
  • Tip #2: Consider using two email addresses when posting on the Internet - one for personal messages and one for posting in public websites. Click here to request a free CapeCod.com email address.
  • Tip#3: Always be cautious about opening any attachment or downloading any files from emails you receive, regardless of who sent them. If you're unsure, contact the sender by phone and/or delete the message.

Many companies are working with law enforcement, industry organizations and governments overseas to help shut down "phishing" scams - emails that purport to be from a bank or other trusted institution in an attempt to fool people into entering their personal account information on a Web site that belongs to the scammer. Here are some tips they've provided to help you recognize "phishers" and protect yourself from their scams:

  • Never type account information into a pop-up window, even if it looks legitimate. Legitimate companies don't request account information through pop-up windows.
  • Don't respond to emails asking you to verify information. Most financial institutions do not ever send email asking you to verify information. If they have an issue with your records, they contact you another way.
  • Be suspicious of grammatical or spelling errors. These are usually indications of a fraudulent message.

CapeCod.com will not ever sell your email address or reveal it to our clients, affiliated companies and advertisers. As a part of becoming a free email member of CapeCod.com, you will only receive monthly mailing from CapeCod.com with special offers from our advertisers. Any other email you are not expecting to recevie on behalf of CapeCod.com is fraudulent and should be deleted. Important messages from the management of CapeCod.com will available to you when you log in to your CapeCod.com webmail via a web browser. If you have any questions regarding an email message appearing to be from the CapeCod.com staff, please contact us directly at 508-771-1224.

Fight SPAM / Unsolicited Commercial E-mails (UCE)

To filter out SPAM, you will need to use a software product or the filters that Outlook or Eudora offer. Also, you may be getting SPAM because you have used your CapeCod.com email address to sign up for offers or to order on-line, and thus your address has been added to email lists. The amount of spam you receive has much more to do with YOUR use of your email address, than anything that may be from our server. Our server does not "send" spam but some spammers may try to guess at common email addresses and just send away. This is not something that is easily preventable.

To assist with the fight against SPAM for CapeCod.com account users, we've installed a new junkmail filter to help users identify legitimate email and also anti-virus software to delete any identified virus-infected messages before they reach your inbox.

As spammers spend most of their time and money trying to create ways to get by filters, your mailbox will most likely never be junkmail free and legitimate mail (false-positives) may be mistaken as junkmail. For this reason it's important to visit http://mail.capecod.com to check your SPAM folder often; and if you see a message in your SPAM folder that you wish to receive just add the sender's email address to your webmail address book.

However, if you utilize a 3rd party email client and want to have ALL messages identified by our system as “SPAM” automatically moved to your MAIN Inbox (for delivery to your email client), you may create a processing rule for your individual account.

  1. Go to http://mail.capecod.com/
  2. Enter your CapeCod.com USER ID and PASSWORD, click Logon and then click Continue
  3. From the drop down Personal Account Options menu select 'Change Processing Rules'
  4. Click the Add Rule link to in the left panel to add a new mailing rule.
  5. Complete the Edit Rule form as follows:
    • a. FIELD: Select "Subject" from the pulldown menu
    • b. Select the option “contains
    • c. PHRASE: type SPAM: in the text box
    • d. Click Case sensitive match
    • e. Click Add Condition
    • f. Scroll down and click on the rule just created (Subject contains SPAM: ) to highlight it
    • g. Select “Move the message to this mailbox:
    • h. Type “Main" in the text box
    • i. Click Finish

IMPORTANT: Be sure to check your SPAM folder often via webmail to make sure legitimate email messages were not mistaken as SPAM and more importantly, to delete the messages in your SPAM mailbox regularly so you do not exceed your email storage space which would cause you problems with sending and receiving email messages.

E-Mail Client Set-Up

Mail and server settings will vary upon your internet server provider (ISP) so CapeCod.com can not support the use of 3rd party products. However, we have provided the below information as a courtesy to CapeCod.com webmail users that prefer to use an email client at their own risk. If these instructions do not work, please contact your ISP or the 3rd party company for the product you are using. And to keep our server and your mailbox from becoming full, please make sure you choose the option to NOT leave messages on the server or to delete them after a certain period. Once your mailbox on CapeCod.com gets full, all mail sent to it will be returned to the sender as undeliverable.

Important Notice: If we continue to receive undeliverable notifications for your CapeCod.com email address within a 180 day period, we will delete your email account. All email is irretrievable once deleted from the server so be sure to log in via a browser to delete your old mail!
