PROVINCETOWN – This young common dolphin was reported stranded on the west end beach.

Officers Jason Sullivan, Joe D’Andrea and Aaron Kacergis responded and located the dolphin on the tidal flats.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) responded and determined that the dolphin was the same one that stranded earlier today near Blackfish Creek and was released to the bay from Duck Creek. (note the yellow tracking tag).

The dolphin was examined by a veterinarian and assisted by our staff and IFAW volunteers before being released back into deep water at the Herring Cove Beach.

Dolphin strandings in Provincetown are rare but back on March 16th, Three dolphins beached in the far east end of the harbor. Two could not be saved but a third was successfully released.
