HYANNIS – Barnstable Police report that over the past three months, their narcotics detectives have been conducting a fentanyl distribution investigation targeting long time heroin trafficker, Brian Whittemore, 56, of Skating Rink Road in Hyannis (left). Whittemore and Whittemore’s residence are well known to BPD Detectives and have been the target of multiple past drug investigations.

The investigation involved extensive surveillance and several undercover purchases of suspected fentanyl from the Skating Rink Road residence.  During the course of the investigation, BPD Detectives were able to identify Whittemore’s fentanyl supplier, Jason McCarthy, 37, of New Bedford (center).

Detectives began following McCarthy on a daily basis and learned that he was routinely delivering the fentanyl to Whittemore on the Cape. On Tuesday, detectives were conducting surveillance on both Whittemore and McCarthy in anticipation of a delivery.  Both suspects were observed meeting at the end of a small residential side street in the vicinity of Route 6 and Route 132.  After the brief meeting, which lasted 20-30 seconds, both vehicles left the area and were subsequently stopped by BPD detectives.

Detectives seized 11 grams of fentanyl on Whittemore and over $900 from McCarthy.  Jennifer Boucher, 43, of New Bedford (right) was a passenger in McCarthy’s vehicle and was found in possession of 3 baggies of crack cocaine.  All 3 suspects were charged with Trafficking fentanyl.  Boucher was also charged with Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.  Both Whittemore and McCarthy have extensive criminal records reflecting numerous convictions for drug law violations.
