Ducklings rescued from a storm drain in Hyannis by Barnstable Police on Friday are placed into a bucket before being taken to a nearby pond

HYANNIS – Barnstable Police made a unique rescue Friday afternoon in Hyannis — as several ducklings had fallen into a storm drain.

Officers responded to an area off Independence Drive after passersby saw the ducks go into the drain.

Sgt. Sean Sweeney got down on the ground and reached into the storm drain once it was opened by the Department of Public Works.

With the assistance of Officer Danielle St. Peter, the ducklings were reunited with the mother duck and taken safely to a nearby pond.
