Barnstable Police seek fugitive from Florida operating stolen vehicle

HYANNIS – Barnstable Police report that for the second time this week, a fugitive fled a routine motor vehicle stop to avoid arrest.  This time the suspect eluded police and is being actively sought.  On Thursday at approximately 9:32 p.m., Barnstable Police Patrolmen David Heise stopped a 1999 black Mercedes ML340 with a Mass registration for a minor traffic violation on North Street in Hyannis.  The operator had no identification and provided Heise with what turned out to be a false name.  While Heise was attempting to verify his true identity, the operator fled on foot towards Barnstable Road.  Numerous Barnstable Police patrol units responded to the area and attempted to locate the operator with negative results.

A follow up investigation resulted in learning the operator’s true identity.  He was identified as David C. Willett, 30, of Palm Coast, FL.  Willett is a fugitive and wanted by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Department in Florida for felony-burglary.  The date the warrant was issued was January 10th, 2017.  Willett has an extensive criminal history in Florida with convictions for narcotics and property related crime.  The vehicle Willett was operating was registered to an address in Bourne.  The vehicle’s 48 year old female owner reported it stolen to the Bourne Police Department on Thursday.  Along with the outstanding Florida charges, an arrest warrant was obtained by the Barnstable police Department charging Willett with:

  1. Failure to stop at a stop sign
  2. False name to a police officer
  3. Operating a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol
  4. Disorderly conduct
  5. Resisting arrest
  6. Receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Anybody with any information relating to the whereabouts of David C Willett is asked to contact the Barnstable Police Department at  508-775-0387. Willett has a last known address of 136 Lambert Ave, Palm Coast, FL.  He is described as white male, 5’7” tall, 155 lbs, and numerous tattoos.
