Barnstable Police seeking summer Community Service Officers

HYANNIS – The Barnstable Police Department has openings for ten seasonal Community Service Officers to provide optimal coverage on Main Street, Hyannis during the 2017 summer season.

The CSOs will patrol the Main Street, Hyannis area and surrounding business district in pairs on foot.

The primary role of the CSOs will be to observe for criminal activity, suspicious behavior, potential safety hazards, and persons needing assistance to better facilitate police response.

They also assist the Community Impact Unit in its work with target populations. These officers are non-sworn and unarmed.

It’s a seasonal job and will be scheduled seven days a week, overlapping coverage hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with each Community Service Officer working 40 hours per week: 5 days working, 2 consecutive days off. The position pays $17/hr with no benefits.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays from early June to Labor Day.

All applicants must be high school graduates or hold a GED, possess a valid driver’s license, be or have the ability to be CPR/first aid certified, and be able to successfully pass a police background investigation.
