Updated: Man facing OUI charges after pedestrian struck in Onset

gibersonmarkONSET -On Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at approximately 4:00 pm, Wareham Police Department, Onset Fire Department, and EMS personnel responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle while standing in a parking lot in the area of 367 Onset Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers reported that a 44 year old Plymouth man had been struck by a vehicle operated by 36 year old Mark Giberson of Wareham. The victim, who will not be named at this time, sustained apparent serious injuries and was transported to a Boston area hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation shows the vehicle operated by Mr. Giberson veered to the right while traveling west on Onset Ave., struck a parked vehicle, then struck the victim, who was standing in an illuminated parking lot in the area of #367 Onset Avenue.

Mark Giberson was arrested at the scene when investigation determined he appeared intoxicated and was operating a vehicle on a suspended license. Additional criminal charges are pending. Mr. Giberson was not injured as a result of the incident, and is being held at the Wareham Police Department.

The victim in this incident was identified at the scene as 44 year old Everett J. Franklin, a former Wareham resident who now lists his residence as Plymouth, MA.

Mr. Franklin was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, by Bourne Fire ambulance where he was reported to be in stable condition with unspecified serious injuries as a result of yesterday’s incident.

Giberson was charged with the following offenses:
1. OUI Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
2. Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
3. Operating a Vehicle While Unlicensed
4. Marked Lanes Violation

Mr. Giberson was scheduled for arraignment on the criminal charges Tuesday at Wareham 4th District Court.
