Bourne Police issue tips to avoid holiday scams

BOURNE – With just over a week to go before Christmas, Bourne Police are issuing some tips to avoid holiday scams this year.

Message from Bourne Police

Especially around the holidays, where the thought of getting a free gift or extremely discounted item may be alluring, please be careful of surveys and other offers being advertised on social media and other avenues.

Many of these surveys or offers purport to be from legitimate retailers and promise free gifts or gift cards for filling out a short survey or sharing a post. Then they request a credit card to cover the “nominal” shipping fees.

Unfortunately many victims either never receive a product or receive a product and get charged exorbitant fees on their credit card. Some of these surveys are information harvesting schemes in order to try to build or complete a credit profile. Others are simply “traditional” credit card fraud.

Always be careful of unsolicited offers or requests from people unknown to you.
