UPDATED: Crash involving ambulance snarls Scenic Highway traffic, no serious injuries reported

BOURNE – Bourne Fire reports that on Thursday at 4:05 PM, Ambulance 135 was traveling eastbound on the Scenic Highway (Route 6) in Bourne when it was involved in a motor vehicle crash with a second vehicle in the area west of Edgehill Road. The ambulance and crew was returning to the station after a previous emergency call and was in non-emergency operations. Immediately after the impact, the two firefighter/paramedics began inspecting the two vehicles for hazards and initiated patient care of the sole occupant of the second vehicle.

Two ambulances and an engine were requested to the scene to mitigate hazards and treat and transport the injured. Initially, a mutual aid request was made to Wareham Emergency Medical Services for an ambulance, however, a Bourne ambulance was able to free up and respond.

The two Bourne Fire Department personnel were transported to Tobey Hospital for evaluation, while the occupant of the second vehicle was transported to Falmouth Hospital. All three victims involved had injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash is under investigation by Bourne Police. Bourne Fire thanks Bourne and State Police for their assistance at the scene, and for the outpouring of support from the Bourne community.

CWN has learned the second vehicle rolled over on impact. Traffic was slowed in the area while the scene was worked until the road reopened about 4:40 PM.
