SANDWICH – Sandwich firefighters and police rescued a dog from a house that was on fire Friday afternoon at 24 Kensington Drive.

Sandwich Police Officer Lauren Gilrein said a person passing by the ranch-style home noticed smoke coming from the roof area and also heard an audible fire alarm.

“Police responded, they were the first on scene. There was smoke that filled the house and they could see flames from with inside the house,” said Gilrein.

No one was at home when the flames broke out. Gilrein said the dog that was rescued was unharmed and taken to a neighbor’s house by police and firefighters.

The cause of the fire was under investigation late Friday afternoon.

Mutual aid from Mashpee Fire assisted at the scene while Bourne Fire and Joint Base Cape Cod Fire covered the Sandwich stations.
