HYANNIS – A serious crash involving a Barnstable Police cruiser shutdown a section of Route 28. The crash happened by the Barnstable Intermediate School shortly after 9 PM Wednesday evening. Hyannis rescuers had to extricate the driver of the other car who was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital with serious injuries. The officer was able to call for help and appeared shaken up but not seriously injured. Route 28 between Strawberry Hill Road and Lincoln Road was closed for a time while State Police conducted crash reconstruction but did reopen about 11 PM. The officer was reportedly responding to a shooting (see related story here) at the time of the crash.
