OSTERVILLE – Firefighters battled a three alarm fire in Osterville Sunday afternoon. A large 2 1/2 story building with an attached garage (approximately 4,000 square foot) at 22 Sea View Avenue was reported fully involved.

One person at the house at the time of the fire escaped safely. Multiple mutual aid companies from several towns were called to the scene. Plymouth County sent equipment to man empty fire stations on the upper Cape.

The fire went through the roof and all crews were pulled out of the building and a master stream over the Hyannis tower was battling the flames from above.

Initial crews launched an aggressive interior attack of the fire from both the front and rear.  However, as the fire spread rapidly through the structure, firefighters were forced out for an exterior attack until conditions were favorable to re-enter.

Aggressive firefighting continued for almost three hours before the fire was brought under control just after 7 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Assisting Agencies:    Apparatus from 10 surrounding towns assisted with fire attack and support: Falmouth, Sandwich, Mashpee, Bourne, Joint Base Cape Cod, Barnstable, West Barnstable, Cotuit, Hyannis and Yarmouth.  Additional support was provided by Eversource, American Red Cross, and the C-O-MM Water Department.

Estimated # of FD emergency personnel on scene: 77
