SANDWICH – Two medflights responded nearly simultaneously to the Wing School in Sandwich Tuesday afternoon to transport 2 patients from separate incidents.
Fire Chief William Carrico said one of their rescue crews had responded to the Stoneman Outpatient Center for a person who needed transport following a fall shortly after 3:30 p.m.
That victim had fallen off a truck and suffered significant internal injuries.
While EMT’s were already at the clinic, a woman came in who had suffered burns while burning brush at a home in Marstons Mills.
“She had first and second degree burns with some airway compromise, so she also had to be medflighted,” said Carrico.
The chief said they had 2 ambulances already on the road that were able to respond to the calls.
“It’s the burden that medical facilities pose to the department in Sandwich,” Carrico said.
He described both victims as being in stable condition just before transport.
The woman who was burned was flown to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, while the man who fell was medflighted to a Rhode Island trauma center.
