Driver flees after car hits pole in West Dennis

– Shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday an eastbound vehicle on Route 28 crossed the centerline and struck a utility pole across from the Whip-O-Will Cottages, 719 Route 28.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was quickly located by the Dennis Police Department K-9 team behind the Breakfast Room restaurant at 675 Route 28 just west of the accident site. The photo at right shows the officer and his canine partner starting the track (click to enlarge).

When the driver was taken into custody he complained of head injuries. He was subsequently transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Dennis ambulance. After an examination he was released from the hospital and taken to the Dennis Police Station for booking.

The vehicle sustained significant front-end damage (top photo, click to enlarge). The utility pole was snapped at its base. Eversource was called to replace the pole.

The Dennis Police Department  is investigating the incident.
