Centerville man charged with Yarmouth B&E

danforthWEST YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department reports that on Monday at approximately 9:14 a.m. it received a report of a breaking and entering in progress at the Bayside Resort Hotel at 225 Route 28 in West Yarmouth. An employee of the Bayside Hotel provided the report and a description after encountering and observing the suspect as he broke into the property. The suspect was described as a white male wearing jean shorts, a green hat, black hooded sweatshirt and a red backpack. Additional information obtained at the scene indicated that the suspect turned right from the Bayside Property and fled east on Route 28.

Responding officers began to search the area, and a K-9 Unit was requested to respond to conduct a track. Yarmouth Police Department K-9 Officer Mike Kramer and his partner, Kosmo, responded and began tracking east on Route 28 toward the Yankee Village motel. Patrol Officers Lou Nickinello and Sean Geary entered the parking lot of the Yankee Village and observed a male matching the description.

The male was later positively identified as Joshua Danforth, 23, of Centerville (photo at right). Danforth was loading several bags into a black SUV.  A red backpack was observed as one of the bags in the back of the SUV.  Officer Geary encountered Danforth, positively identified him and conducted a field interview. Within a few minutes the suspect was also positively identified by the Bayside employee. Danforth was subsequently placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering daytime with the intent to commit a felony and malicious destruction of property. He was transported to Yarmouth Police Headquarters for booking.

Yarmouth Police Department Detective David Schneeweis conducted a follow-up investigation that resulted in the issuance of a search warrant from the Barnstable District Court for the room at the Yankee Village where Danforth was temporarily staying. After obtaining the warrant, Detective Schneeweis, Yarmouth Police Detective Christopher Kent, and Patrol Officers Geary and Kramer responded to the Yankee Village Motel room 113 and executed the warrant.

During the execution of the warrant a wide variety of items, which are reported or believed to have been stolen, were recovered. These items include all types of tools, cable boxes, clothing, jewelry, televisions, golf clubs and other assorted items believed to have been stolen in past break-ins in Yarmouth and Barnstable.

Danforth is charged with several crimes and the investigation is continuing with additional charges expected. Danforth is scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court Tuesday charged with two counts of felony receiving stolen property and felony breaking and entering.
