Crash closes Route 6A in Yarmouthport, knocks out power

YARMOUTHPORT – Around  5:45 PM Sunday, a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck a utility pole on Main Street (Route 6A) just west of the entrance to Kings Way in Yarmouthport.

High tension wires came down across the road. The driver stayed in the vehicle until it was determined to be safe .

Power was out to 1,129 customers in the area after the crash. By 7 PM that number had been cut down to 865 customers. Shortly after 8 PM the outage was reduced to 150 customers.  Route 6A was closed between Union Street and Setucket Road in both directions . The driver was examined at the scene but did not require medical attention. Yarmouth Police are investigating the crash.
