Crews battle boat fire in Falmouth Harbor; 1 person injured

FALMOUTH – Fire departments from across the Upper Cape battled a boat blaze overnight in Falmouth that injured one person.

Falmouth Fire Chief Michael Small said the flames broke out on a 60-to-65 foot catamaran at MacDougall’s Boat Yard in Falmouth Harbor at 1:43 a.m.

Small said the boat was fully involved when crews arrived. Despite the danger of the flames spreading, the chief said they were able to contain the fire to the boat.

It took about 90 minutes to fully extinguish.

One of the two crew members, a female, suffered burns and was taken to Falmouth Hospital before being MedFlighted to a Boston hospital. A second crewmember, a male, was not hurt.

Three alarms were struck bringing in mutual aid from Mashpee, Joint Base Cape Cod, Cotuit and Bourne.

Small said the boat is now resting on the bottom of Falmouth Harbor and the Coast Guard is working to remediate a fuel spill.

About 350 gallons were on board at the time of the fire.
