Dennis Police honor retired sergeant who died after long illness

DENNIS – Dennis Police Chief Peter DiMatteo has announced the death of retired Dennis Police Sergeant Craig A. Stevenson on January 9th 2017.

Stevenson was 59 years old

Stevenson served on the Dennis Police Department for 29 years. Because of a serious illness he retired as a sergeant in 2015, but because he loved being a Police Officer and the Town of Dennis he continued to work part-time as one of the Department’s Victim Services Coordinators.

During his years of dedicated service Stevenson was a Patrol Officer, Juvenile Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Narcotics Detective, SWAT Negotiator, Family Services Officer, Patrol Sergeant and then Victim Services Coordinator.

A statement from the chief said Stevenson will always be remembered as a hardworking, caring officer who truly enjoyed helping people and making their lives better.

During his time in the department, he received over 100 “Thank You” and “Appreciation” letters from citizens and professional organizations that he had helped over the years and made a positive impact on.

Stevenson also received many Department Letters of Commendation as well as Excellent Police Duty and Exceptional Investigation Awards.
