Driver critically injured in weekend Sandwich crash

SANDWICH – Sandwich Police are investigating an accident early Sunday morning that critically injured the driver.

Officers responded to the crash in the area of 123 Route 130 and on arrival observed a green 1998 Chevrolet Lumina off the road in the woods.

The vehicle had been travelling south before going off the road and striking a large tree. The unidentified operator was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Sandwich Police and Fire Departments.

The victim was initially transported to Cape Cod Hospital and later transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

The accident was investigated by Officer Michael Leslie and an accident reconstruction was completed by Officer William Patton.

Sandwich Police also received assistance from the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department with photgraphs. There are no charges at this time, but the crash remains under investigation
