UPDATED Two-alarm fire heavily damages large house in West Barnstable

WEST BARNSTABLE – A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a large 2 1/2 story house in West Barnstable late Wednesday evening. Heavy fire was showing when crews arrived at 194 Lothrops Lane shortly after 10:15 PM Wednesday evening. The building was reportedly vacant at the time of the fire.

Mutual aid from Barnstable, Sandwich, Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills, and Hyannis FDs responded. There were no hydrants in the area so firefighters had to shuttle water from a hydrant a distance away via tankers to the scene as well from a nearby swimming pool.

The tankers responded from as far away as Plymouth and Eastham as well as Joint Base Cape Cod FD. Flames went through the roof forcing firefighters to take a defensive stand.

One person was treated for unknown injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
