WAREHAM – At approximately 5:40 AM Sunday, the Wareham Harbormaster & Fire Department was notified by the Wareham Police Dispatch of a vessel taking on water with five people onboard. WHM Marine Unit 1 & 2 were dispatched along with various other agencies of the Buzzards Bay Marine Task Force to assist in trying to locate the vessel.

At approximately 6:30 AM, the vessel was located in a shallow and rocky area northeast of Little Bird Island. Marion Harbormaster Vessel MH-1 arrived on scene with the vessel in distress. It was confirmed that all persons were accounted for and wearing life jackets. The individuals were taken off the partially submerged vessel and transported to Tempest Knob cold but thankfully uninjured.

Massachusetts Environmental Police were notified and investigating the incident. It is anticipated that the vessel will be salvaged later during the day when the tide is more favorable. Salvage efforts are being coordinated with TowBoat US Cape Cod/Plymouth at this time.
