CHATHAM – Chatham Police and State Police assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office were investigating the discovery of a human skull in Chatham Friday.

The skull was found close to the Atwood House Museum, and initial indications were that it could be at least 100 years old.

The state medical examiner and an anthropologist were expected to further examine the discovery next week.

The Atwood Home is the headquarters for the Chatham Historical Society.

According to the organization’s website, the Atwood Home is one of the oldest existing structures in Chatham.
