HYANNIS – Hyannis firefighters put out a small blaze at the Hyannis Elks Thursday night.

The flames broke out just before 9:30 p.m. in front of an entryway and had started to spread inside the building.

Hyannis Fire Captain Gregory Dardia said 3 people were in the club when a 9-1-1 call was made.

Firefighters had to rip out some walls both inside and outside the building to ensure the flames had not spread any further.

Damage has been estimated at $5,000. The initial cause appears to have been a discarded cigarette.
