Investigation leads to drugs charges against West Barnstable man

WEST BARNSTABLE – Barnstable Police report that in February 2017, Narcotics Detectives began a drug distribution investigation of 38-year-old Michael Bryant of West Barnstable. Throughout the case, Barnstable Detectives conducted numerous undercover purchases of illegal narcotics from Bryant. Also during the investigation, detectives discovered that Bryant was traveling to New York weekly to purchase hundreds of grams of cocaine and oxycodone pills to sell to local drug dealers and customers in Hyannis, Yarmouth, Dennis and Harwich.

On Friday June 9th, Yarmouth Police obtained an arrest warrant for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Aggravated Assault and Battery for Michael Bryant. The warrant was obtained as a result of a separate investigation in which Bryant and several other suspects assaulted an adult male and the victim had to be transported to Mass General Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

In order to locate and arrest Bryant on the outstanding assault warrant, Barnstable and Yarmouth Police established surveillance in the area of Bryant’s home in West Barnstable on Saturday June 10th. At approximately 1 PM, Bryant was observed operating his gray Range Rover on Route 149 in Barnstable. At this time, a Barnstable Patrol Officer attempted to stop Bryant’s vehicle, however he refused to stop and continued to drive for approximately ¼ mile until he pulled into the driveway of his residence. Officers were then able to apprehend Bryant. After his arrest, Bryant was searched and found to be in possession of more than 300 oxycodone and Xanax pills. In addition, Detectives located over 500 grams (1/2 Kilo) of cocaine in Bryant’s vehicle worth an estimated $75,000.

Michael Bryant was charged with Trafficking in Cocaine (over 200 grams), Trafficking in Oxycodone/Oxycontin, Distributing/Dispensing a Class E Substance, Failure to Stop a Motor Vehicle for a Police Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle So As to Endanger, and the warrant for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon/Aggravated Assault and Battery.

Michael Bryant has an extensive criminal record involving firearms and illegal narcotics. Bryant was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Monday and was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing.
