Lower, Outer Cape police departments get ready for Operation SafeRide

PROVINCETOWN – Police departments on the Lower and Outer Cape are coming together for a safety initiative this New Year’s Eve.

 They plan on working in partnership with local taxi cab companies to keep people from driving drunk with Operation Saferide.

Now in its 5th year, the program provides free and sober rides home on New Year’s Eve.

 It begins at 10pm on Saturday, December 31st and runs until 4am on Sunday, January 1st2017. The outreach is designed specifically to limit impaired drivers on our roadways and to work in partnership to keep communities safe.

 Anyone who needs a safe and sober ride home on New Year’s Eve from a licensed liquor establishment to a residence in the Towns of Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet, Eastham and Orleans can call one of the designated community-partnership taxi companies for a free and sober ride home.

The service will operate from 10pm to 2am and will be call based, from 2am to 4am as long as you make a reservation in advance the service would still be free.
