Man accused of trafficking heroin in Harwich

HARWICH – As a result of a on-going narcotics investigation involving the Distribution of Heroin in the greater Brewster, Harwich and Chatham areas, the Brewster Police Department applied for and was granted three State Search Warrants from the Orleans District Court. The search warrants were obtained as a result of an investigation by the Brewster Police Department, the Harwich Police Department, the Chatham Police Department and the Cape Cod Task Force. The subject of the investigation was Daniel Cook, 25, of Harwich.

On Friday, at approximately 5:57 p.m., officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle owned and operated by Daniel Cook. The vehicle was stopped on Route 124 in Harwich, near the intersection of Headwaters Drive.

Daniel Cook was identified as being the operator of the vehicle. Police say he subsequently attempted to flee on foot from the vehicle stop, and was apprehended in the middle of Route 124 as he continued to attempt to get away from officers. Cook allegedly additionally kicked a detective in the head in an attempt to get away from the grasp of officers.

A subsequent search of Cook and his vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 155 grams of Heroin.

A subsequent search of the residence of Daniel Cook resulted in the seizure of approximately ten grams of heroin and approximately $12,000 in US Currency.

Cook was placed under arrest on charges of trafficking in heroin (100-200 grams), resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. He was transported to the Harwich Police Department where he was booked and processed. He was held on $50,000 cash bail pending his arraignment in Orleans District Court.
