Juvenile charged with murder after man fatally stabbed in Yarmouth motel

YARMOUTH – District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson announced Saturday that Yarmouth Police responded to the Beach ‘n’ Towne Motel, 1261 Route 28, South Yarmouth, at approximately 8:47 p.m. Friday evening for a reported stabbing.  The victim, James Dean, approximately 43 years old died as a result of apparent stab wounds.  A juvenile is in custody in connection with the event.  The case remains under investigation by Yarmouth and State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorneys Office.

Yarmouth Police released the following statement: On Friday at 8:47 p.m., the Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments responded to the Beach ‘n’ Towne Motel at 1261 Route 28 in South Yarmouth regarding a 911 phone call reporting a stabbing in one of the rooms.

Yarmouth Police Officers and Firefighters arrived at the scene and immediately provided emergency first aid to the victim and secured the area.

The victim—identified as James E. Dean, age 43—was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital by Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance.  Despite efforts by First Responders and Emergency Room Staff, the victim was unable to survive and was pronounced deceased.

A 16-year-old male suspect—who was found at the scene and is related to the victim—was taken in to custody and is currently incarcerated at a juvenile detention facility awaiting arraignment on murder charges.  

As in all untimely deaths, members of the Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene and are now in charge of the investigation.
