HARWICH
– Around 8 a.m. on Monday Harwich Police and Harwich Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area of 188 Queen Anne Rd for the report of a single-car rollover crash.

Upon arrival, first responders found an older model Ford Explorer located partially off the roadway on its roof with a person still inside the vehicle. The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was reportedly unconscious and officials initially feared significant traumatic injuries.

Firefighters extricated the victim from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue tools. Due to the initial reports, the Incident Commander requested a MedFlight helicopter to meet the ambulance at Barnstable Airport in Hyannis for transport to an off cape trauma center. The driver’s condition improved while enroute to Hyannis. The helicopter was cancelled and the patient was taken to Cape Cod Hospital.

Queen Anne Road was shut down in both directions while the accident scene was worked. The road was reopened to one alternating traffic lane after the patient was transported from the scene and during accident reconstruction activities. The crash is under investigation by the Harwich Police.
