Marion man facing kidnapping charge following Wareham incident

WAREHAM – Wareham Police responded to a possible hostage situation at 36 Sunset Blvd. in East Wareham on Wednesday night at 10:15.

Reports indicated at least one person was being held against their will inside the residence.

On arrival, officers received no answer at the door and noticed the lights being shut off and entry/exit points were being locked. The perimeter of the property was then secured, as additional personnel responded to the scene as a precautionary measure while the incident was being investigated.

The Southeastern Mass. Law Enforcement Council SWAT team responded, as the investigation continued with sporadic communications with occupants of the home, which included 4 adults and two minor children, who were sleeping during the incident.

At 3:00 am, occupants of the residence began to show signs of cooperation and exited the home to speak with investigators.

But police said full cooperation did not happen. No weapons were found.

As a result of the investigation, Wareham police placed Spencer Mello, 26, of Marion, under arrest for kidnapping. Mello was an invited guest of the homeowners at the time of the incident.

At 5:30 am, Jaimee Morris, 27, who is listed as being homeless, was placed under arrest for an unrelated court default warrant when investigators and DCF caseworkers returned to the home to again check the welfare of the children who were present and sleeping during the incident.

Morris is not the mother of the children present.

Both suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court.
