Mashpee, Yarmouth Police warn about new scams

MASHPEE – Mashpee Police are issuing a warning about a new scam in the area.

A caller receives an automated “notification” that they are being summonsed to appear in court on a future date, and they are given a telephone number to call back to confirm.

Police said it is a scam with the likely intention of gaining the victim’s personal information. You will never be summonsed by telephone to court.

Authorities urge you to hang up on these calls; your best bet yet continues to be simply to not answer telephone numbers you don’t recognize.

Separately, Yarmouth Police are warning about a lottery scam sent to a Yarmouth resident. Any lottery solicitation by mail or phone should be considered a scam.
