Pickup truck crash snaps pole in Harwich

HARWICH – Harwich Police and Fire responded to a 1 car accident Monday morning at 10:15 at Uncle Venies Way at Anns Way.

On arrival, rescuers found an older model pickup truck into a utility pole with the pole snapped and the upper half hanging in the roadway with wires still attached.

The vehicle was smoking and had extensive damage to the front end and engine compartment and had also spilled fluids in the roadway.

The driver had self extricated and after being evaluated by Medics refused further treatment or transportation.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, contained the fluid spill and called for the electric company to handle the snapped pole and wires down in the roadway.

Uncle Venies Way is closed to all traffic in both direction until the vehicle can be removed and pole replaced.

The accident is under the investigation of the Harwich Police.
