Rooftop ventilation system fire at Eastham pizzeria

EASTHAM – On Thursday at 12:14 PM the Eastham Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Red Barn Pizza Restaurant at 4180 State Highway (Route 6).

First arriving Police units reported moderate smoke showing from the interior of the restaurant. A small fire was located in a ventilation shaft which had extended to the surrounding wood frame of the roof structure.

A working fire assignment was requested, and companies from Orleans, Brewster, Harwich, Truro, and Dennis Fire provided assistance at the scene or station coverage.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and remove the ventilation unit.

The Eastham Building, Wiring and Health inspectors responded to the scene for further evaluation.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion. There were no civilian injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but appears to be accidental in nature. The business will remained closed until necessary repairs can be made. All fire units cleared the scene at approx. 14:10.
