MASHPEE
– Mashpee Police report that on Tuesday at 12:08 p.m, they responded to Audio Video Solutions at 759 Falmouth Road (Route 28) for a well being check on a despondent male. Upon arrival, the situation escalated to the point that the subject barricaded himself in the business reportedly armed with numerous firearms including high power rifles. The perimeter was secured which included the closing of Route 28 from Deer Crossing plaza to the Falmouth town line. The Upper Cape Special Response Team (UCSRT) was requested to assist. A Mashpee Detective was able to begin negotiations with the subject who refused to leave the business and threatened to harm himself as well as any officers who approached.

Crisis officers with the UCSRT joined in negotiations which continued to be threatening in nature. At one point in the late afternoon the suspect fired a round from the business. The situation escalated with the subject advising he was armed with an AR-15 rifle, numerous 30 round clips, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition as he continued threatening officers and himself.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., the UCSRT assisted by crisis negotiators from the Metro Law Enforcement Council SWAT team were able to convince the subject to surrender and come out peacefully. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Falmouth Hospital for a psychological evaluation.

Detectives remained on the scene and charges will be forthcoming once the investigation has been completed. The subject is a 41-year-old male from Falmouth.

On Thursday, Mashpee Police identified the subject at Patrick S. Perkins of Falmouth. Perkins was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, disorderly conduct and threatening to commit a crime. He is due to be arraigned Thursday in Falmouth District Court.

Agencies assisting in this investigation included Falmouth Police, Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office, State Police Detective Bureau and the Metro Law Enforcement Council SWAT team.
