Sandwich Police review 2016 overdose figures

SANDWICH – Starting last year, the Sandwich Police Department partnered with Gosnold in a program called the Overdose Intervention Program.

A police officer and outreach worker from Gosnold conduct follow up visits with victims of drug overdoses. Visits are meant to show that police have a stake in what happens in our community and feel that offering an open hand and open mind can help an addict on the road to recovery.

The goal is that Gosnold will provide them a bed and assistance immediately if they want treatment.

The following are the Sandwich Police Department’s statistics on overdoses in 2016:
Total overdoses: 20
Total fatal overdoses: 4
Total PD reversals using Naloxone (Narcan): 4
Total known FD reversals using Naloxone (Narcan): 8

So far in 2017, the department has already had 3 overdoses, all which were reversed using Naloxone (Narcan).
