UPDATED: Security tight for annual Carnival Parade in Provincetown

Provincetown Police/CWN

PROVINCETOWN – Security was very tight as tens of thousands of people descended on Provincetown for the annual Carnival Parade. The parade steped off at 3 PM from Snail Road and wound down Commercial Street to Franklin Street with a theme of Gods and Goddesses. With recent events in the country and today’s apparent attack in Barcelona in mind, Provincetown Police were supported by additional officers from the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council. State Police were in town as well including one of their helicopters that was hovering overhead watching for any problems. There were no known specific threats to the event.

Update: As of 9:30 PM, no major problems were reported. EMTs handled about a half dozen medical calls, while police placed a handful of people in protective custody for public drunkeness.
