SANDWICH – The Sandwich Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 6A and Quaker Meeting House Road sometime after noon Wednesday. There were three passenger vehicles and one 10-wheel dump truck involved in the crash. The operator of the dump truck was a 67-year-old male from Bournedale. The other operators were a 72-year-old female from Sandwich, 55-year-old male from Poughkeepsie, New York, and a 63-year-old female from Sandwich. The 72-year-old-female had to be extricated by firefighters using the Jaws of Life and was evacuated by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with serious injuries. All the other individuals involved in the crash were not injured.
Route 6A was closed during the crash, which is still under investigation by the Sandwich Police Department.
