South Yarmouth man arrested and charged in Yarmouth break-ins

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police Officers met with a suspect at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters Thursday afternoon regarding his involvement in several overnight break-ins in South Yarmouth.

Based on John Johnson’s alleged admissions and the recovery of evidence, the 42-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with the crimes which occurred over the past month.

They involved a vehicle in the parking lot of Stop and Shop on Long Pond Drive and a commercial business break-in at the Cape Cod Convenience Store located across the street.

Both crimes were captured on surveillance video systems in the area.

Yarmouth Police Detective Eric Nuss, working closely with Yarmouth Police Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officers Christopher VanNess and Nicholas Ambrosini; as well as members of the Stop and Shop Loss Prevention Unit, was able to identify the suspect as a man living in the Swan Pond Village complex which is located within 1/10th of a mile of the crimes.

Detective Nuss obtained a search warrant from the Barnstable District Court and a search of the suspect’s residence recovered the clothing worn by the suspect during the crimes and a stolen cell phone.

The suspect was processed at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and is scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court today.
