Tabletop Exercise to Focus on Mass-casualty HAZMAT Incident

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) announces its annual Barnstable County REPC tabletop exercise to be held on Wednesday in collaboration with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and the Town of Sandwich.

According to BCREPC Emergency Planner Amy Alati, this annual hazardous materials (HAZMAT) emergency response practice is unique because of the collaboration between the BCREPC and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Emergency Management Department. The exercise is prepared and presented by cadets majoring in Emergency Management as part of their Capstone Course.

The exercise has several goals, says Alati. “This is an annual mandated training required to maintain the certification of the BCREPC. It provides the opportunity for towns, emergency preparedness officials, and first responders to practice together in a mutual-aid regional response effort. It is also a valuable learning experience for the MMA cadets.”

The all-day exercise will be held at the Sandwich Hollows Golf Club and will focus on a multi-agency response to a notional mass-casualty and HAZMAT incident in the Town of Sandwich.
