Taunton woman drives into Wareham storefront; charged with OUI

WAREHAM – A Taunton woman is facing drunken driving charges after driving her car into a gas station/convenience store Wednesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 5 Star Gas & Convenience store on the Cranberry Hwy. at 12:30 p.m. and found a vehicle had narrowly missed the gas pump area and crashed through the front windows of the store, causing significant structural and interior damage.

A customer inside the store was slightly injured.

The driver, Laurie Texeira, 52, was arrested at the scene for operating under the influence of alcohol and operating to endanger.

Wareham Police said that was Texeira’s 2nd OUI offense. She allegedly told officers that she recalled traveling on Rte. 28, then entering the building. She was not injured during the incident.

There were no brake marks noticed on the roadway or in the parking lot.

Texeira was set to be arraigned Thursday in Wareham District Court.
