YARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that Tuesday morning at 2:40 AM, Patrol Officers of the 12-8 shift stopped a vehicle for a violation. An on-scene investigation resulted in the arrest of a Wellfleet man for possession of a small amount of the deadly drug fentanyl.
Fentanyl is a potent, synthetic opioid pain medication with a rapid onset and short duration of action. It is a potent agonist of opioid receptors in the brain. Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.
Fentanyl is also used as a recreational drug, leading to thousands of overdose deaths from 2000 to 2017.
Anthony DiAntonio was processed at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters on charges of Possession of a Class B substance (fentanyl) and was due for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court Tuesday.
