Wellfleet Police make arrest in assault this past Monday


WELLFLEET
– Wellfleet Police report that last Monday at approximately 10:00 PM, they were dispatched to Fred Bell Way to investigate an assault and battery.  Upon the arrival of the officers they meet up with a 44-year-old white male with injuries consistent with an assault and battery.  Wellfleet Rescue Squad arrived on location and treated the victim and transported him to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

After a brief investigation the Wellfleet Police obtained an arrest warrant for Sam Scherer, 30, of Wellfleet charging him with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Aggravated Assault and Battery. With the assistance of the Provincetown, Truro, and Wellfleet Police Departments, Scherer was arrested after a traffic stop in Truro on Saturday.  He is currently being held at the Barnstable County House of Correction pending arraignment at the Orleans District Court on Monday.
