What is so rare as a day in June?

And what is so rare as a day in June?

Then, if ever, come perfect days…

The opening lines to James Russell Lowell’s poem, What is So Rare as a Day in June, were probably on the lips of more than one person experiencing this perfect June Saturday.

A cool breeze, a hot sun, and a beautiful Cape Cod Bay greeted those on the northside of Dennis.

Particularly rare was the clarity of the atmosphere as illustrated in the photo above of the Provincetown Monument taken from Scargo Tower (click to enlarge).

Lowell continues:

Now is the high-tide of the year,

And whatever of life hath ebbed away

Comes flooding back with a ripply cheer,

Into every bare inlet and creek and bay…
