Yarmouth firefighters quell commercial dryer fire

YARMOUTH
– Yarmouth Fire reports that at 3:20 PM, they responded to 897 Route 28, The Laundry Center, for an automatic alarm, while enroute the call was upgraded to a dryer fire. An employee tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher before fire department arrival. The fire was confined to the clothing articles in the dryer. Firefighters removed the burning clothing to the exterior of the building and extinguished them with water. Fire crews checked for further damage, found that it was confined to the dryer and used a fan to ventilate the smoke.

Mutual aid assistance was requested from Dennis Fire Department due to Yarmouth’s heavy call volume. Since 8AM there have been 18 responses, 11 medical, 6 engine responses and 1 mutual aid to Provincetown; five of those 911 calls came in within 13 minutes of each other.
