Yarmouth Police to host second active shooter response training

Lt. Kevin Lennon

YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce is co-sponsoring the second free training for CRASE.

CRASE stands for Civilian Response to Active Shooter/Hostile Events (ASHE). The training will take place at the Yarmouth Police Department Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

The class will be followed by a 1 hour course on the use of improvised and commercial tourniquets, intended to teach individuals how to apply a tourniquet to stop major bleeding if injured during a hostile event.

The CRASE training will give the attendees an overview on what an Active Shooter/Hostile Event is and what they can do to protect themselves after 911 is called.

This is a nationally recognized training program developed in conjunction with the Department of Justice and Texas State University. The class will look at the Virginia Tech School shooting and review data from a study conducted by the FBI from 2000 to 2013 on Active Shooter/Hostile Events.

At the conclusion of the program the attendees will have a better understanding on what an ASHE is, what preparations can be done now to protect themselves before and ASHE, and what they can do to reduce risks during an ASHE.

YCC Executive Director Mary Vilbon attended the first class held last month and said, “After attending the training it made me realize that there are options to protect myself during a hostile situation that I never considered. I recommend that a representative from all of our businesses attend this training.”

Kevin Lennon will lead the course. Lt. Lennon is a 26 year veteran of Law Enforcement and has be teaching Active Shooter Response at the Recruit, Veteran and Reserve Officer level since 2002.

Lt. Lennon is a level 4 instructor with the Municipal Police Training Committee and has trained thousands of police officers in Patrol Response to Active Shooter. To register for this event, visit yarmouthcapecod.com
