Yarmouth Police to host yearly motorcycle unit training at Bass River Beach

YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department and the town of Yarmouth will again host the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Motorcycle Unit for a special training session in a section of the parking lot at Bass River Beach on South Shore Drive in South Yarmouth.

The training will begin on Monday, May 15, 2017 and end on Monday, May 23, 2017.

The CCRLEC Motorcycle Unit consists of specially trained full-time Police Officers from various police departments from all across Cape Cod and the Islands.

In addition to their regular police duties of vehicle enforcement and crime suppression; conduct specialized motorcycle escorts at major events such as funerals, motorcycle rides, parades, dignitary escorts, Etc.

The value of motorcycle patrol is even more relevant today than when it began more than 100 years ago in Detroit, Michigan. With the ability of the police motorcycle to quickly navigate congested traffic and quickly get to an accident scene, more agencies are expanding their motorcycle patrol units.

One of the greatest benefits of motorcycle patrol is the connection to the community. Citizens often feel more comfortable approaching a motorcycle officer for assistance.

Motorcycle police patrol has a long tradition all across the United States and right here on Cape Cod and the Islands. The longevity is the diversity and adaptability to current social trends that make the motorcycle unit an indispensable and relevant part of any modern law enforcement agency.

Throughout the time period the beach and parking lot will remain fully open to the public.

The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Motor Officers will be present each weekday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM and members of the public are invited to stop over and watch the training and say hello to the Police Officers and check out the motorcycles and safety equipment.
