YARMOUTH –
Local and state public safety officials presented a mock impaired driving fatal crash Friday morning to senior students at Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School.

The mock crash was a collaborative effort between the students and staff of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School and the Fire and Police Departments of Yarmouth and Dennis as well as members of the Massachusetts State Police.

This is the 22nd annual event—spearheaded since its inception by retired Yarmouth Fire Department Lieutenant Paul Holmquist—and carried on by Lieutenant Robert Reardon.

It’s part of a series of campaigns throughout the school year designed to send a message of the dangers of alcohol and other drug use.

The event featured a mock fatal motor vehicle crash with two vehicles provided by Silver Cloud Towing of South Yarmouth positioned as if they just collided.

Police and Fire officials responded to the scene and discovered multiple crash victims in need of emergency medical treatment. The offending driver was arrested and the fatality transported in a hearse provided by the Hallett Funeral Home of South Yarmouth.

After the scene was cleared a presentation and discussion session with students and staff took plac ein the school auditorium with various Public Safety Officials.
