ya081216 compYARMOUTH – Yarmouth Police report that on Friday at 10:40 a.m., Patrol Officer Sean Geary observed a hand-to-hand drug transaction between two well-known habitual drug users at the park on Butler Avenue in West Yarmouth.  Patrol Officer Geary also noticed a newer model black Maxima involved that left the area at a high rate of speed.

Yarmouth Police Department Proactive Anti-Crime Unit Officers Nicholas Ambrosini and Christopher VanNess immediately responded to the area. PACU Officer Ambrosini arrived first and observed the Maxima leaving the area at a high rate of speed. He further observed the windows to be tinted extremely dark, beyond the legal 35% and conducted a motor vehicle stop of the vehicle at the dead-end on nearby Cottage Drive.

As the vehicle stopped, the front seat passenger exited the vehicle and started to walk away from the vehicle. The driver also exited the vehicle and started walking towards the Officer.  Both subjects were ordered to stop at gunpoint. The passenger hesitated and was again commanded to stop. Both finally complied.

Fellow PACU Officer VanNess arrived and both subjects were placed in handcuffs and detained. Both parties were found to have a large amount of cash on them. The evasive front passenger did not have identification on him and gave police a name that was subsequently found to be false. The driver was positively identified and placed under arrest initially for unlicensed operation.

Upon an inventory of the vehicle, Police Officers discovered a sandwich baggie containing a green leafy substance in the center console with 15 individual nuggets or buds of marijuana.  Both subjects were placed under arrest for drugs.

Upon arrival at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters, the passenger eventually provided his real name and it was determined that he was being actively sought by West Virginia Law Enforcement and that he was on their Most Wanted List for Burglary, Rape, and 1st Degree Robbery.

The driver was identified as Samael Mathieu, 19, of Hyannis (left). He was charged with conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act, operating without a license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and window obstructed/non transparent. The passenger was identified as Vanilson Monteiro, 21, of Boston (right). He was charged with distributing a Class D substance, conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act, and fugitive from justice.

Both subjects were processed and subsequently transported to the Barnstable District Court for arraignment.
