The Davenport Companies of South Yarmouth founded the race which was inspired by a team-building exercise the company participated in at the Formula One Boston kart racing facility. Now the race is held annually at the Cape, and local businesses sponsor teams of drivers and offer matching donations while the Davenport Companies cover the cost of operating and promoting the event.

Sponsors, volunteers, and followers have increased year after year, totaling fundraising thus far to around $4.5 million, which is then distributed to local organizations. Sponsorship opportunities offer up to six driver spots in the European-style karts and extensive advertising. Seaside LeMans hopes to raise around $500,000 at the 2014 Event.

All proceeds of the Seaside LeMans are donated to The Cape Cod Foundation, which manages and designates the funds to selected charities. The five selected 2014 Race Beneficiaries include Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center, the Cape Cod Baseball League, Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, and Cape Cod Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Initiative.

This Cape Cod-oriented event benefits organizations that touch nearly every attendee.

U.S. Congressman Bill Keating is the Grand Marshal for this years race, as 10,000 spectators are anticipated to congregate at Mashpee Commons. The opening ceremony will occur around 11:30 am on September 6th, just before the four hour race kicks off.

The 30-member “We Are The Men” singing group will perform live music during ceremonies and a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces. Cape Cod Healthcare will provide a medical tent along with a blood drive to support the Cape Cod Healthcare Blood Center. An additional race sponsor is Coca Cola Bottling Company of Northern New England, who will bring their “Share a Coke” campaign to the race.

Though the competitive event awards a winner at the end, the beneficiaries and entire community gain from this collaborative fundraising effort.
