Dave says he was first attracted to the idea because his wife wanted to be closer to her family in Weymouth. Dave spent 10 years doing mornings then added the title, “Weather Specialist” to his duties and he’s been keeping Cape Codders informed on the ever changing storms, winds and sunshine of the Cape.

He’s a huge fan of the Ocean music often sending his own music collection suggestions to our Program Director. Dave is well known in his hometown of Sandwich and is an active community member working tirelessly for A Baby Center in Hyannis, as a Cape Cod Healthcare volunteer and at Bridge to Hope. He’s a frequent traveler and you can see his photos on our Ocean Facebook page…they are a testament to both his passion for photography and the beauty of Cape Cod.

When asked how he stays excited about his job after all these years, Dave explained, “I try to keep it fresh and not to repeat things… and after all I have radio to thank for keeping me young!”

Here are just a few things that his co-workers have said over the years!

  • “35 years with one company in radio is the equivalent of an all-pro quarterback playing for the same team his entire career! It doesn’t happen very often, and it goes to show what a true talent Dave really is. Cape Codders recognize his distinct voice, the same familiar baritone that has been starting listeners’ days with a smile since 1979. His dedication to weather is unmatched, from his hopeful three “B” guarantee (bright, blue and beautiful) to storm coverage during blizzards and hurricanes (remember Bob!). Dave has a passion for radio that shines through everything he does, whether it’s announcing, producing or hosting a station event. It has been a joy to work alongside him since 1997, and it comes as no surprise that he has such a large, loyal following of listeners across Southeastern Massachusetts. Happy Anniversary, Dave… thanks for 35 amazing years of hard work and dedication. And as the man himself likes to frequently say, he’ll “talk to you again tomorrow in the AM on the FM!”
  • “Dave Read, ALWAYS quick to brighten someone’s day!”
  •  “He’s the Pied Piper of weather watchers, the ultimate hobbyist photographer and THE Mac Man!”
  • “Dave is a consummate professional, always going the extra step to make sure the listeners are aware of the latest.”

Congratulations Dave on 35 great years!

35 Years of Morning Entertainment

HYANNIS- August 20, 2014 — Today marked 35 years hosting radio on the Cape for Dave Read who joined WQRC on this date in 1979.   Now the morning host of CCB Media’s Ocean 104.7, Dave’s sailed through the years, noting two owners, several General Managers and “more salespeople than he can count” to make it through to today.   The station also honored Donna Credit, Ocean Mid-day host for her 20 year anniversary this year.
