Cape Cod Activities: Surfing

While surfing is mainly associated with other coastline states like California and Hawaii, Cape Cod’s AtlanticCoast is known regionally for its surfing and has a number of surf schools. If you’re just learning to surf, have been surfing for years, or just want to try a new experience, these surfing schools offer lessons for all levels.Cape Cod Actvities

Fun Seekers, Wellfleet

Fun Seekers offers daily lessons with a trained professional for surfers of all levels. Depending on the tide, weather conditions, and surfing ability, lessons can be taught at various beach locations. Lessons range from $30 – $75, and prices include a full wetsuit and surfboard. Fun Seekers also offers lessons in Stand up Paddle boarding, Windsurfing, and Kite boarding.

Sacred Surf School, Wellfleet

Cape Cod’s only accredited surf school offers instructions on how to properly stand up on the surfboard, how to navigate the waves and ocean patterns, and important safety precautions. SacredSurfSchool’s goal is for you to learn to paddle, stand and master the technique of surfing. By the end of the lesson, you will learn how to “self-coach” yourself in the water and enjoy a new found independence. SacredSurfSchool offers one-on-one lessons, as well as small group instruction.

Sugar Surf Cape Cod, Wellfleet

Sugar Surf offers couples instruction, lessons for groups of three or more, and private, one-on-one instruction. For children ages 6 to 14, they also offer a summer day camp from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. two Fridays in August. If you’re coming to the Cape with a group of friends and want to try something new and exciting, Sugar Surf also offers customized party packages.

Cape Cod Surf Camp, Orleans

Cape Cod Surf Camp offers students the opportunity to learn from local surfers who are experienced in Cape waters and CPR certified. Day camp for children ages 9 to 17 offers three days of in-depth training with a 3 to 1 student – teacher ratio. Tuition is $450 and includes all equipment, and snacks and water. Cape Cod Surf Camp also offers group and private lessons for $75 and $90 for one-and-a-half hour sessions.

Cape Cod Activities: Windsurfing

If you would like to try windsurfing, there are two Cape schools that teach you to ride and glide on the water with your board and sail.

Cape Cod Windsurfing, Falmouth

Cape Cod Windsurfing is the only on-the-beach water sports school and rental store in New England. Utilizing the latest techniques and technology, they offer windsurfing group lessons run for $75 per person for two hours and private lessons for $125 an hour. If you have windsurfing experience, windsurfers can be rented for $35 – $90.

Sailworld Cape Cod, Buzzards Bay

Sailworld Cape Cod offers a three hour windsurfing program where by the end of the lesson you will be able to confidently up-haul, sail away, turn around, steer and return to your starting point. Their program includes all equipment and teaches safety and correct windsurfing techniques.

If you’re looking to add excitement to your life, skydiving offers a breath taking view and the ultimate thrill of soaring above one of Cape Cod’s beaches.

Skydive Cape Cod, Chatham

Skydive Cape Cod, located at ChathamMunicipalAirport, is the only drop zone that jumps directly overhead one of the Cape’s beaches. As you glide above the sandy shores, you overlook the entirety of Cape Cod and Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Skydive Cape Cod has more than 14,000 jumps, earning it one of the best safety records in the U.S.

Skydive Barnstable, Marstons Mills

Skydive Barnstable, located at the Cape Cod Air Field, offers the closest drop zone to and best aerial views of Boston and Providence. Each staff member is a professional skydiver with substantial free-fall experience, and their instructors have thousands of jumps to their name.

If you want an aerial view of Cape Cod, but prefer to stay inside the plane, Ryan Rotors Helicopter Tours fly you above and beyond Cape Cod. Prime photo opportunities include the Life’s a Beach Tour, which takes you over Duxbury Beach with beautiful views of the Powder Point Bridge and Gurnet Point Lighthouse, and the Canal Cruise, which takes you over the historic Cape Cod Canal, with views of Onset Harbor, Sagamore Beach and Plymouth’s entire south coast. The Sunset Tour lets you pick where you want to see the sunset, and the Cranberry Harvest and Fall Foliage Tour offer the entire cranberry harvest and a sea of fall colors.

Cape Cod Activities: Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre

Drive-In Theatres were once very popular on the Cape, but today the Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre is the only one left. If you’re looking for old-fashioned movie entertainment, the theatre was built in 1957, currently boasts a 100 x 44 ft. screen and still offers the classic outside movie experience. In keeping with classic Drive-In Theatre family entertainment, there is a playground for the kids to enjoy before the film and snack bar for you to enjoy a treat during the movie.  This Drive-In Theater is just one example of how many great Cape Cod Activities are out there.

Cape Cod Activities: Seashell Exploration / Arts & Crafts

For something fun and creative to do with the family on overcast beach days, you can take the kids to the nearest beach and send them on a hunt for the best seashells they can find. After they have a collection of their favorite shells, you can enjoy creative arts and crafts projects at home with your new sea treasures. Christmas ornaments, picture frames, or simply decorating a box are just a few of the crafts that will entertain the kids on a rainy Cape Cod day. Many Cape Cod beaches offer a plethora of shells from which to choose.
